Gold Mine Tours
- Empire Mine
-- For more than a century, the Empire Mine counted among the Top Ten Largest, Deepest, Longest and most productive -- $120,000,000.00 in pre-inflation dollars ---gold mines in California, at almost a quarter of a million pounds of gold.
The State-Operated Park features a fabulous Gold Rush mine-stone home, mine buildings, beautifully restored strolling gardens and the entryway into a staggering, almost unbelievable 367 miles of abandoned and flooded mine shafts that goes almost everywhere in Grass Valley, and is under my home as well as the homes of most folks I know in this area.
The Empire Mine bought up most of the mineral rights below 100 feet in Grass Valley.
There are eight miles of absolutely wonderful hiking trails in the park -- and plenty of biking trails nearby!
- Northstar Mining Museum
-- A nice little photo opportunity -- Largest Pelton Wheel ever made is housed here, plus much, much more historical Gold Rush equipment and rare documents, photos, etc. Closed in Winter.
